Time to look at the latest episode of WOW: Women of Wrestling:
-The Tonga Twins vs. The Heavy Metal Sisters-Basically a rehab match to get The Tonga Twins back in order after being screwed out of the tag-title match a few weeks ago and that's what happened here. Not a bad team to go with as the HMS looked strong in defeat being able to take the Twins to the limit even though the decision was never in doubt after commentary kept hammering home the previous loss which signaled this as the rehab it was. After the match, a brief bit to remind the audience they were going after the belts firmly solidified the bout's intentions and brought it all together nicely.
-Genesis of Exile Speaks-Essentially a brief bit informing the audience about the stable's background and coming together to take over the profession under Malia's guidance, which can be a lot of fun overall if they go with the decision that her veteran guidance is the reason for the dominance.
-Gigi Gianni vs. Malia Hosaka-As expected, the whole thing is about Malia's experience and veteran instincts keeping her in the match against Gigi's speed and athleticism while the rest of Exile provides outside distraction and interference to further that point. Gigi looked good in defeat and legitimately could've won but if we're going for the idea of the team coming in with true veteran leadership that needed to be shown and is what we got here.
-Lana Star's Fab 4 Bullies Tiki Chamorro-A brief backstage bit after the match last week about Tiki being a good sport and offering congratulations to the team who blow her off and mock her for losing before leaving. Afterward, Leia Makoa and Tiki decide to leave together so setting something up for more interaction between the teams in the future.
-Lana Star has a broken car-After leaving the arena, Lana's car breaks down and a tow-truck driver arrives to fix it. Determining the car unable to be fixed on the spot, she offers to take Lana to her appointment only to realize it's all four in her group as well which is a no-go so she leaves for backup while the group stands around mocking her accent and generosity. More stuff to get over their heelish antics and materialistic vibes with a bit of comedy thrown in.
-Vivian Rivera vs. Reina del Ray-Mostly built on the idea of Reina being the one to take out The Beast a few weeks ago so she was the aggressor brutalizing and slugging it out with Vivian who was game and put up a fight but Reina's power shut it down. A fairly competitive bout that had a lot to like.
-Lana Star and The Fab 4 Get a Lift-So it seems that wasn't the end of everything as the trucker's mother shows up with a truck to take everyone to the show. As compensation for the trip, the truckers receive tickets to the show so it's all a comedy route with the wrestlers being put off by their down-home ethics while the truckers crack wise about their high-end fashion style. An inoffensive bit of culture-clash comedy that usually works especially with the brevity of everything.
-Americana, Sahara Spars and Jessie Jones vs. Samantha Smart, The Disciplinarian and Ice Cold-A massive six-person tag-match bringing everything from the past month or so that felt incredibly rushed and slightly anti-climactic due to a rushed ending that stopped this just when it seemed to get going into a higher gear with the submission victory by Jones. I almost can't even recall if everyone got involved legally in the match it was that short but the feel-good moment of the win is a nice way to go about this.
However, it's all the post-match angle as the heel team rushed the ring during the celebrations and taking them out leaving Jones in the ring 3-on-1 before G.I. Jane comes in for the heel turn and joins in on the beatdown. It turns out the truckers from earlier were in the crowd the entire time and rushed them off for the save leading to them leaving, the truckers getting named as Holly Swag and Big Rig Betty, and another big tag match between the teams next week. I agree with more matches, the company needs some feuds, but to bring in fresh faces to do that is a bit awkward and clunky especially with the heel-turn of a performer who had one match and the introduction of a team that was brought on-screen earlier that day. I'll see where this goes but the opportunity for a program finally is a lot more overwhelming.
